Bootice is a Windows utility application that allows users to modify, backup, and restore their master boot record and partition boot record of local drives.

In addition to backing up the MBR and PBR, Bootice can also configure with external hard drives, USBs, and other drivers installed onto the operating system.

By modifying selected primary and external drives, users are able to create disk images in a .IMG format, manually fill up disk space, and manage their drive partitions effectively. This gives users the freedom to manage different processes of the operating system, such as restarts, shut downs, and boot ups.

On the main graphical interface, users can get a visual overview of their different external storage devices and their main storage unit. Users have the option to create back ups of boot storage records or re-format their entire disk.

Since Bootice is a fully portable application, it can be used anywhere on any physical device for backups and modifications. Many users like Bootice since it can be used to destroy junk left over in old disk data files.

However, new users should be aware that Bootice isn't exactly beginner friendly. Rather, the program is geared towards those who already know what they're doing and know how disk partitions work. It's not recommended for amateurs to mess around with their Master Boot Record, since this could leave the entire machine unbootable.

In order to avoid issues, it's recommended that users use Bootice on a removable storage device, such as a USB, and not on primary storage devices.

Unlike other programs that work with disk partitions, Bootice is completely free for anyone with a Windows machine. This makes it an industry favorite among both individual programmers and whole teams of developers.

In the right hands, Bootice can be used very effectively to improve the function of an older computer. Rather than relying on automatic defragmentation applications, Bootice allows the user to make maximal use of all their external and primary storage devices.
